Strategist

If you’re reading this, you must be a curious person. That’s good. Curiosity is the first thing we look for in a Strategist at GYK. We also look for nice people who bring energy, clarity, and creativity to everything they do. Sound like you? Read on.

GYK is looking for a Associate Strategist.

At GYK, strategy is the driving force behind all the work we do, from content to integrated campaigns. As an Associate Strategist, you will work within a team committed to uncovering powerful insights that drive our creative output and integrated marketing plans.

You will be expected to conduct research to better understand our clients’ businesses, industries, and consumers, and identify trends in culture. You will support the strategy team on deliverables including creative briefs, brand positioning, integrated campaign plans, and primary research instruments like surveys, discussion guides and workshop materials. Most importantly, you’ll be expected to bring a passion and desire to learn, expand your skillset and build your confidence as a strategist and planner.

The Associate Strategist teams up with a Strategist/Senior Strategist and the Director of Strategy at GYK to deliver high quality insights and strategic thinking that shape effective marketing campaigns and brand experiences. You will also work closely with account management, creative and media team members on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Work within the strategy and planning team on research and insight development while supporting key strategic deliverables for your designated clients.

  • Work toward taking on more responsibility and ownership of strategy work while becoming consistently client-facing over time.

  • Support the development of creative briefs, brand positioning, communications plans, annual marketing plans, and other strategic deliverables.

  • Actively seek to learn the craft of strategy and planning, as well as key concepts in account management, creative, media, and brand marketing.

  • Be comfortable conducting secondary research: developing a learning agenda, identifying credible (and non-credible) sources, using tools like Mintel, MRI, and others, and presenting your findings in a compelling narrative.

  • Support primary research efforts, including surveys, stakeholder interviews, workshops, consumer interviews, focus groups, and ethnographies.

  • Effectively manage workload and deliver quality outputs across multiple brands and projects at the same time. Be comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

  • Collaborate with account, creative and media teams regularly to drive the most impactful work for our clients. We don’t work in siloes.

  • Most importantly, we ask that you be the best version of you every single day.

Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, communications, psychology, sociology, or a related field of study.

  • 1-2 years of professional experience within an advertising or branding agency; preferably in brand/creative strategy or planning.

  • Internship at an advertising or branding agency, or experience working within a student-run agency at school, is strongly preferred.

  • Exceptional writing skills and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
